Question:

What's the real difference between the Sky Caddie models?

Even looking at the Sky Golf web site, the only differentiation seems to be the screen...four models with three different screen sizes, with one having a color screen. But the rest of the features look to be the same. Are there really so few meaningful differences? I find it hard to believe that the screens are the only real difference given a price range from $260 to $430, but it sure looks that way from their web site.

Am I going to get better performance out of one model over another or just a nicer screen?

Thanks,

Chris

  1. Basically the difference comes down to a couple of things:

Size, screen - resolution and color, battery - whether internal or external, memory - how many courses can be stored.

There is a good comparison on the website in source box of Skycaddie and other models.

PS a lot of people rate after sales service very highly in their buying decision.

  2. Advertising, you could say. The ones they sell more of, there going to make them the higher prices, to make others belive that there the "better ones". And also, the more pricier ones may have more feautures, but really, you could but the cheaper ones, because they will tell you all you need to know, the yardage.

  3. Yep, pricing and positioning go hand-in-hand, to use some terms from a marketing text book.

If you haven't already, you might want to take a look at the iGolf Neo GPS unit: http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/igolf-neo-... - $149, no subscription required if you map your own courses.

Otherwise, check out Rock Bottom Golf for buying that SkyCaddie. [ http://rockbottomgolfssl.com/search/sear... ] Prices are about the same as everyone else's on Sky Golf stuff, but you can get 10% off your order total if you put Slick10Off in during checkout.

    Best of luck!

  4. The only other difference than the ones you mentioned is that one of the models take AA batteries and the rest have an internal rechargable battery.  I bought the 2.5 since I couldn't see paying twice that for a color display.  If you're an older person with bad eyes the larger display may be worth it though.
