  1. inter-

    pref.

    1. Between; among: international.

    2. In the midst of; within: intertropical.

    3. Mutual; mutually: interrelate.

    4. Reciprocal; reciprocally: intermingle.

  2. Within.

  3. international doesn't mean 'outside' it means between or among nations.

'Inter' is from latin and is used as a prefix meaning -  between, among, together, reciprocally, mutually.

  4. yes, it always means "between"

"aN international product" means a product for "international trade" while "international trade" means the trade _between_ nations

if i argued with the thoroughly investigated etymology, i would choose "intersection" as an example

    :P

  5. Internalization's root word is internal, not just inter.
