  1. cousins, i think 5th or 6th cousins

  2. i think you would be cousins thrice removed

  3. Half third cousins.

Call the GGM and GGF Alice and Andrew. Call Alice's child "Barbara" and Andrew's child "Bruce", and so on.

Alice & Andrew = half siblings

Barbara & Bruce = half first cousins

Coleen & Charles = half second cousins

Donald & Doreen = half third cousins

You are "Doreen" here. "Andrew" is your GGF. "Donald" is your half third cousin. Each line is a new generation.

No one but a genealogist showing off (or in his cups) ever uses the word "half" for anything except brothers and sisters; normal people lump half cousins in with regular ones.

    Edit:

The person who said 5th or 6th didn't count very well.

Three times removed would be your great grandparents' cousins, not yours. That is, back in 1910, your GGF had a first cousin, Elmer. Elmer is your first cousin three times removed.

  4. Siblings share parents.

    1st cousins share grandparents.

    2nd cousins share gr grandparents.

3rd cousins share gr gr grandparents.

you fit the last one, except on a 1/2 basis.

  5. Go with Ted and Wendy.  You are both in the same generation coming down from a direct common ancestor.  That is how you count it.  Now the boy's father would be your 2nd cousin once removed to you.

The removes come in when your generation is different coming down from a direct common ancestor.  For instance, your first cousins children will be your first cousins once removed.  You and your first cousin shares grandparents who will be great grandparents to your first cousins' children.
