What's the rest of the saying "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me?"?

so... there's no fool me three times...?

I always hear it in movies and wondered whats the real third one, but i guess there isn't one...?

  1. That's the entire quote. Sometimes, jokingly, someone will ad lib the "fool me a third time" part just to make a point of what's happening or to make light of it.

    For example, a girl commenting on a guy she thought loved her (and who fooled around and they broke up and then reconciled over and over) may say that quote and add "Fool me a third time and I'm more in love than the first time".
