What's the result of red dye over brown hair?

What will happen if I put strawberry blonde/copper (red) straight over light brown hair? If it's professional dye (not store bought), will it turn the red color or will it turn an orange-y color? Thanks a lot!

  1. it depends ..hair dye doesnt work how its supposed to all of the time[ trust me!] its better if you get it professionally dyed, sadly, because they know what to do if they see the color isnt coming out right..now if you're still wanting to do it yourself maybe you should bleach your hair first or get a dye that lightens and dyes your hair as well

  2. Depending on how dark brown your hair is it will most likely add

a red highlighted effect to your hair.

Chances are it won't be drastic or that noticeable unless you have really light brown hair.  The lighter the brown the more noticeable the red will be.

You should do  a "strand test" before you do your whole head to see what color you get.

  3. you need to strip your color before you do that mister !

  4. it would probably turn the color you want it since someone else will be doing it. but at home, it'll turn kind of goldish in the light/sun haha personal experience

  5. you won't need to strip your hair.

if it is proffessional dye you will not need to strip your hair.

and the color will look like the color you want.

  6. I suggest that you do not color your own hair especially with permanent color. Semi perm color would be better for you if your trying to make a change like that, because semi will wash out after each wash.  See a professional for permanent color so you can know what you need to do to take care of your hair. Also I feel that reds and browns are close and any reds will definitely color nicely over brown.
