What's the right button to press when calling an elevator?

I never really know what button to press when I approach those doors, so I usually press both. Anyone know the right one?

I push the down button if I want to go down, the up button if I want to go up!

down if you're going down, up if you're going up. If there's an elevator going up, it will stop at you're floor. same for down.
