  5. The title "Defender of the Faith" was given to Henry VIII by the Pope for a paper he wrote supporting the Catholic Church. Henry later split from Rome but kept the title and his successors have all used it even though they have no right to it.

    The Church is called the Church of England. In other parts of the world it is called the Anglican or Episcopalian Chuuch.

    the Queen is also "defender of the faith".  a label created a long time ago; England broke off with the Vatican thanks to Henry VIII when he divorced his first wife.  the monarchs since then are not only the heads of states, but also the heads of faith.  rubber stamp though.  they hold no executable power without parliament.
