  1. I had my open house as soon as I got the Kitchen unpacked.  I like to cook/bake.  Have the open house as soon as you want, as soon as can host a party and be comfortable.

Register somewhere, sure, if they ask you can tell them.

  2. There is no rule of thumb on how long you have to wait before hosting a house party!. Don't assume guests will bring gifts........thats just rude. Enjoy their company, and most people will bring their favorite wine as a welcoming gift

  3. Have you been renovating? Redoing?  Are you looking for a good excuse to have a party?  You can call it an open house even if it's ayear later - just let them know what you've change.  We've been renovating and look forward to your celebrations. Please come join us for an open house on .... However, if you're looking to invite guess just have a regular party to ask them over.  They'll love to see what you spent the big bucks on. Ha

  4. A housewarming party is associated with gifts for the house.  You can do that soon after you move in.  In contrast, an open house is just a "drop by" party.  Gifts aren't expected, though people may bring small hostess gifts.

Registering for a hosewarming party is controversial.  I agree with the author of website below that it feels a little tacky, but it's a growing trend.  Never include the registry info in your invitation.  Only if people ask.
