Question:

What's the ruling in this situation.....?

A shot flirts with the goal line, but the referee deems it was a no goal.. Play continues nonstop for however long and the other team scores a goal clearly..

Heres the twist--- the first no goal call is reviewed and determined it was a goal .. Obviously it counts, but does the oppositions goal stand or not?? And is the clock reset to the time of the first goal??

**This could also be applied to the same team scoring after a no goal call--- but would the first goal count over the obvious second???

  1. the first goal will count and the play will resume at the time of the goal with a faceoff at center ice.

it is a bummer for the other team, but it should never have happened in the first place and theyd have to consider it as a gift chance that it even happened

  2. I would assume goal and the clock would be reset. Either way, it would deflate the team who just got scored on.

  3. The clock is reset to the time of the first goal and the other team's goal does not count. If the questionable goal is reviewed and it is deemed a goal, then the time will be rewinded back to the point of the goal being scored and nothing else that happens after that counts.

Copas: happy. Avs got a goal out of it. Don't quite remember how it turned out because BOTH goals ended up being reviewed for some reason, I totally don't remember what happened. I do remember that Roy had one of his patented stickhandling-at-center-ice moments and gave the puck away and Bourque batted it out of the net out of midair as it was just about to cross the goal line. It was awesome.

  4. Everyone who stated that first goal counts, the clock is reset is correct and it is covered under rule 78.6 - Video Review.  That rule address the fact that only one goal can be scored on a play, any other goals scored do not count and the clock is reset back to the time of the first goal.

It also addresses a slight variation on your hypothetical situation.  Here is the situation:

~Team A kicks a puck into the net

~It is not seen by the officials

~Play is stopped for a goal by Team B

~Replay shows that the kicked puck entered the net

In this situation the goal by Team B is also disallowed, the clock is reset to the time on the clock that the illegal goal entered the net and the puck is faced off in the neutral zone.

--- It's pretty cool the situations you find when you crack open the rule book.

  5. someone asked that after one of sharks/flames games.

the first goal counts, the second doesnt, the clock is set back to when the first was scored, and they continue from there.

  6. The first goal counts. Anything after that does not count because technically play is over once the puck crosses the goal line, and the time is set to the time when the puck crossed the goal line the first time

  7. if the first non goal was actually deemed a goal the clock would have stopped initally at that point becuase it was goal so the second "goal" wouldn't of really happened BUT it wouldn't of really happend if they stopped the clock so that regulation time wouldn't have taken place. SO im thinking No the oppositions goal wouldn't count and they would start the clock back to the first "non-Goal, goal" THAT IS A GOOD EFFEN QUESTION.

  8. the first goal would count and the clock would restart from when the first goal was scored, anything after that never really happened

  9. First goal counts and play is started at the time of the first goal. Second goal doesnt count.

  10. It wouldn't get reviewed if their was a goal right after another one. He called a no goal, so that's how it would stand.
