There's a farm in my village where they have a herd of tiny cows, only about 4ft high that look fully developed. They're really pretty.

  1. There are quiet a few small breeds of cattle these days.  In England the ones you saw were probably Dexters or Miniature Galloways.  If they were black with a big white band running around their middles they were the Galloways.

  2. When you first see a Dexter, its small size is most striking. A Dexter is half to two-thirds the size of traditional breeds of dairy and beef cattle. The Dexter's smallness is perhaps its greatest attribute, being the basis of many of its other valuable characteristics. The Dexter is widely recognised as the smallest of the traditional British breeds. There are now breeds of a similar size, including the Lowline Angus and Miniature Hereford, but they have emerged very recently relative to the Dexter and, as specialist beef breeds, lack the Dexter's versatility.

It is generally accepted that the preferred height for Dexter cows is between about 96 to 106 centimetres (38 to 42 inches) at the rump; for Dexter bulls, it is 101 to 111 centimetres (40 to 44 inches), though breed standards in different countries vary a little from these. The average height of the Lowline Angus and Miniature Hereford breeds are very similar, at about 100 to 110 centimetres. By contrast, a small Jersey cow may be 120 cms high while a Friesian cow will stand up to 136 cms, a Friesian bull up to 150 cms.

  3. aberdeen angus or jersys i think or a big calf

  4. Dexter cattle

  5. Vechur

  6. uhmm if you could give more detail on what they look like (color, that kind of stuff) that would help. but they could be jersies. Jersies are pretty small. They are a brownish/tan color. Very pretty cows.

  7. The Velchur is the smallest although the Dexter is more common.  In late 2004, another little cow was discovered in India ( in Kerala). It was one that was already thought extinct. The High Range dwarf is intermediate in size between the Vechur and the Dexter. Only forty of these animals were identified from a single herd of 120 (all owned by the same family). It is hoped that this rare breed will be saved from the edge of extinction as is being done with the Vechur.

  8. You get miniature cows i dont know what the breed name is but ive seen them advertised as just 'miniature cattle'

  9. i'm going to say jersey's

  10. miniature

  11. The Dexter cattle are the world's smallest breed of cow with shoulder height of bulls being 38 to 44 inches and cows being 36 to 42 inches. Their bulls do not reach over 1,000 pounds and cows not over 750 pounds. The original home of the Dexter Breed was in southern Ireland. Their first recorded arrival of this breed of cow to America was between 1905 and 1915 with over two hundred head. The lifespan of a Dexter bull or cow is around 20 years.
