  1. The story of the red string .....i'll try to be brief. Yes it's a "kabbalah" thing. Kabbalah is not a religion. It is a branch of mysticism coming from judaism, but not restricted to. The problem with the red string is it's meaning has been corrupted. I want to clear this up.
The evil eye is a reference to people being jealous of what you have, and wishing you harm so that they can have it. If you give someone the evil eye you have a desire for something they have, not something like it, but that thing in specific. Meaning i don't want a car like yours...but i want your car so that you no longer have it. If i felt this way towards you i would be "giving you the evil eye"
You can no more control other people being jealous of you then you can control who they love. But what you can do is you can give yourself reminders that you should not be jealous and desire harm to others.
This is the true purpose of The Red String. We as Kabbalists put it on our wrist to remind us that whatever is in our future, be it riches or love, we should not wish to take yours from you. But we should trust in g-ds plan for us, we will recieve according to his plan. Any thing outside of that is an affront to g-d or rather, a sin.
Modern times has corrupted the meaning of the red string, this corruption reflects our need to control other people.
I just wanted to clear that up. hope it help. It's like a rubber band someone puts on their arm to remind them not to smoke, or overeat.
