paramol is the strongest over the counter painkiller u can buy its stronger than co codamol as its dihydrocodeine, take 2 every 4 hours and follow the pack for how many u can take in 24 hrs. u can also take3 doses of ibuprofen a day in addition (if ur able to takeibuprofen ) and best to space them out between the doses of paramol. make sure u dont take any other paracetamol containing products when taking it or any others codeine in it , if its a tooth abscess u need toget some antibiotics asap.  good luck hope u feel better soon

I am afraid that a tooth abscess is one of the worst pains and the hardest to relieve. I recommend that you make sure the doctor gives you anti-biotics to get rid of the infection,then you can treat the tooth that has been giving you the problem. But you must get rid of the infection first, I know the pain will then subside but it still needs treatment.

As I stated in my reply to this question, I would not mention medicine and how much to take. Some of the answer given are a testament to that. The amount of medications and the mixture of some of the recommendations is positively dangerous. See your doctor.

co-codamol in the 500/8mg format (500 of paracetamol and 8 of codeine) You can then take 2 of these with 2 ibuprofen if the pain is really  bad

Edit: the other thing you can do is dissolve some aspirin in water and gargle with it, also try some bonjela on the area inviolved. I know lots of people will say not to mix meds but I have taken, paracetamol, codeine (a lot more than 8mg) and aspirin all on prescription from a specialist!! Do see a dentist or doctor as soon as poss tho

Anadin Ibuprofen in a black and yellow pack. I had them for the same thing while waiting for the dentist, and they are really good. I had 2 paracetamol, then 2 hours after I had these, and they knocked me out. I slept for 2 hours and then was able to take 2 more paracetamol. If your pain is as bad as mine was, you will need them.
