"Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori" (It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country) When said by anyone who sounds as though they meant it. It was originally (in Roman days) written to point out the stupidity of the attitude. 2000 years later, some people still don't get it!

Similarly "Charity begins at home" said by anyone who sounds as if they mean it. Also originally written to poke fun at this attitude.
