  1. in Center City (downtown) Philly they are everywhere during working hours, and along south street at night. other than that you will have to call a cab if you want one. Philly has a decent public transportation system http://www.septa.org so if you wont have a car you will not need one.

  2. It depends on the time and where you're at.

For example...Sunday morning on Spring Garden Street in the Art Museum area?  Forget about it.  Friday night, 1:59am on Market Street in Old City?  You'll trip over them there are so many.

Parts of town like Fishtown, where a lot of activity has been brewing is still tough to get a cab after dark.  They normally don't patrol up there looking for fairs like in Center City, but they'll usually come and get you.

The best company to call in my opinion is:

    Liberty Cab--(215) 389-8000

    There's also:

    Crescent Cab--(215) 365-3500

    Old City Cab--(215) 708-8888

  3. The previous poster is right, but just as a point of info, the cab # is easy to remember..  215-333-3333...
