I'm writing a story that uses Chess pieces as reference for the rankings of military units where the first main character is a member of the Queen's Battalion and is demoted to training members of the weakest Pawn battalion of the 8

So again i throw this question out to the pros of chess because i'm not sure myself. Of the 8 pawns, which one is truly the weakest and most insignifigang?

  1. in most cases the A and H pawns. Most action takes place on the center.

  2. The rook pawns (a and h).

That's why the strategy books recommend that you "capture towards the center".  That way your rook pawns will become a knight-pawn.

Of course, in any specific postion you need to look at all the tactical possibilities.  An otherwise weak rook pawn may be very strong if it's about to promote to queen.

  3. all the pawns are equally strong but not as strong as the other pieces. it depends how you use your pawns and where you and your opponent moves your chess pieces. in certain games of chess other pieces become weak because themoves you and your opponent chooses.

    :]

  4. i would say none if you know how to use them
