  1. Where exactly in British Columbia??

British Columbia is 947, 800 square kilometres (365, 946 square miles). This represents  3.88 times the surface of the United Kingdom or MORE than California, Oregon and Washington  states combined!

If you are in the south (Vancouver, Victoria), then during the coldest days you may wear a winter coat, gloves, scarves and boots...it can get below 0 C, but it's not always like that. It can get as high as10 + C too. If you are in the interior or the more you north you get, the colder it gets. I've seen the weather rating in the -30C range.

Once again--where are you staying? What city/region?

Activities--skiing, snowboarding, tubing, snowshoeing are the obvious outdoor activites. But once again, if you are closer to the urban areas--a whole lot more!

  2. It depends where you are. If you're in the Vancouver or Vancouver Island area, the temperature ranges from about -5°c to about +8°c in the winter. It's usually above freezing though, just sometimes at night on a clear night it'll drop below zero, and during the occasional cold spell it will too. If you're in the interior of BC, Kelowna, Kamloops etc, it ranges from about -25°c to about +5°c. If you're in the far north of BC it can range from about -50°c to about 0°c. All these temperatures are without the wind chill added in. If other people tell you colder temperatures, it's because they add the wind chills into the temperatures, which is only the perceived temperature. They make no difference if you're wearing windproof clothing and are covered up for instance.

In the Vancouver/Victoria area, you don't need much for clothing. A good umbrella or a waterproof jacket is important. Most of our rain falls between October and January. Water resistant or waterproof footwear is nice, but not necessary. Gloves and a toque are nice to have for when the temperature drops below freezing every now and then. Activities range from skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding as the mountains are within a very short distance of town. You can even go golfing in the winter, sailing etc. There're lots of indoor activities too of course. Just about anything you could think of.
