Question:

What's the weather like in Indiana?

My boyfriend and I are going to Indianapolis in a couple of weeks to visit his mom and sister - it'll be my first time meeting them! What is the weather normally like there in September - specifically, the week after Labor Day? I was born and raised in southeastern Virginia, so I'm used to lots of heat and humidity. I've never been to the midwest before - my travel experience is limited to New York City, the Outer Banks of North Carolina and southern California, all at different times of the year. I really have no idea what to expect.

I asked my boyfriend, but he was really no help. In the first place, he wears t-shirts year-round - the boy is a space-heater. Secondly, he spent a lot of his childhood in Alaska, as well as Germany and a winter in Kansas (military family), so his perception of hot and cold are a bit skewed from my own.

What kind of stuff should I pack? Short sleeves? Long sleeves? Help!

  1. It's still best to bring summer clothes and some light fall clothes such as jeans and a sweatshirt. The weather can change pretty quickly. We like to say "If you don't like the weather in Indiana, wait ten minutes."

  2. Expect alot of Sunshine and pleasent temperatures. 70s and 80s during the day, 50s and 60s in the nightime. Indianapolis is beautiful in September. I think you'll be pleased.

  3. It would be best to bring mainly warm weather clothes, but weather is unpredictable, and your arrival is the time, that weather can tend to start to chill in our area.

    Its best to be prepared.

    Have a great time in our sad little state

    best regards

  4. It is very nice right now in Indiana it is usually very hot this time of year but it has been in the 80's lately .. I would bring a umbrella and light clothes ... Have fun Indianpolis is a great place for fun .. take care

  5. During the day, you'd be good in shorts/capris and a short sleeved shirt. Once the sun goes down, it would be a good idea to have a jacket or long sleeves if you're going to be hanging out outside. Daytime = 80s

    Nighttime = 60s-70s

  6. Keep your summer clothes around because it's usually hot, hot, hot.  I lived in Indiana all my life and Sept is still summer and usually hot.  Might even get some thunderstorms.  Pack an umbrella just in case.
