Question:

What's the weather like in Playa del Carmen in January?

My husband and I are going to Playa del Carmen in January and I don't know what to expect weather-wise, especially in the evenings. The "dressing up" for dinner part is killing me (I hate dressing up....). Are the evenings cooler? Am I better off with shirts that have 3/4 length sleeves, or should I just stick to short sleeves?

Any information on the weather in January would be very much appreciated! Thank you!!

  1. I don't think Playa ever has bad weather. I haven't been in January but i went in April and it was fantastic. Sunny and clear but not hot. In the evenings it got cooler because there was always a breeze. And if you hate to dress up then don't you are on vacation ..................>>>>enjoy m e xi co!!!

  2. Hi,

I've been to the Yucatan, Cancun, Playa del Carman, and Cozumel in late December and January. The entire area is influenced by the Caribbean Sea. You will have very pleasant days, sunny and warm temperatures can reach into the 80's. The evenings can be cooler but not by much. Evenings will be in the mid 70's later in the evening low 70's. Pants and your suggestion of 3/4 length sleeves is perfect. A light jacket or sweater would help.

I take it the dress up part must be for the All-inclusive resort you are staying at. All the resorts are asking for, is you don't attend there reservation restaurants in swim suits, shorts, or beach wear. In the main dinning area there is no dress code.

What we did was bring very casual shirts, pants, no socks, sandals and loafers. Real easy. You don't need to dress to the "9's".

  3. I was in Cancun in February - the middle of their winter.  We never even needed a sweater or jacket.  But do bring one just in case!!   The dressing up at our all-inclusive was just long pants and a collar shirt for men, long pants or a skirt or dress for women - no sandals for either.  They were letting women in with dressy sandals though.  It was very "informal" dressing up.  A nice pair of capris, or khakis worked just fine.

  4. The weather is great in January, you got sunny days and cool evenings. I would recommend to take with you regular t shirts and a light jacket or sweater, cause it could get chili. Have fun.
