I am planning a trip to Hong Kong around mid September and hope to go to Macau for 3 days or so while I'm there. I would also like to go to mainland China for a day (which City can I go to in mainand China from HK by train).

I am worried about the weather because the forecast shows rain and there is talk of typhoons, monsoons etc. Can someone who is there please tell me more. Or at least someone who has lived there. I don't want to spend the whole time in the hotel room due to thunder storms.

  1. Now is hot and humid in Hong Kong.

But it will be cooler in mid-September. Mansoon and typhoons dont usually happens in July and August. September is rare. Dont worry.

You can go to Shenzhen by train from HK.

  2. check out www.lonelyplanet.com then type in your destination and it has all the information you are looking for there.

Shenzhen is right next to HK. So that would be your first mainland china destination.

I was there in September and it was beautiful.

I was also there in June and it was a little rainy.. but didnt last long.

  3. Most likely, hot and humid. Sept is still very hot there. Preparing for sweating a lot.

    - If you plan to stay 3 days in Macau and 1 day in mainland China. I will suggest you to make it reverse that 1 day in macau and 3 days in mainland China. Macau is small that 1 full day is enough or 2 days 1 night.

My suggestion is HK to Guangzhou by train(3hr), spend 2 night in Guangzhou - take bus(2.5hr) to Zhuhai/Macau border - stay 1 night in Macau - take ferry back to HK (1hr).

I feel Guangzhou got more to see than Shenzhen and Zhuhai. If you don't have Chinese passport you need VISA to enter mainland China that spending more time on those worth the price of the VISA.

  4. can't tell u what's the weather like mid of Sep. but probably v v  hot here. i m currently living in HK. temp like 30-35c daily. s'time rain.... depends on there's typhoon nearby us or not. it's the typhoon season in Asia. but mostly those typhoons goes to Taiwan or China seashore. but once they nearby, wil bring us quite a lot rain.

  5. Hongkong

For those who are seeking warm, dry and sunny weather, the ideal time is October to December. Those who are wanting to escape the humidity of tropical climates will appreciate the cooler months of January and February. The humidity is typically high in the spring and worse in the summer, when high temperatures (usual maximum of 33-34°C) are often recorded.
