What's the worst food?

I always get "thumbs down" at this site whenever I answer a question that demands a subjective answer, but let me try.

First of all, unlike one of your answerers, I love Brazilian food.  I lived in Manaus for a little under a year as a child, and I still make some of my favorite dishes from that time.  Come to think of it, there were some pretty funky ice creams when I was there, for example, "milho verde" (green corn), which was very much like eating from a befouled sandbox.  I understand, though, that dairy products in the Amazon have improved tremendously since I lived there.

The worst thing (that is, other than spoiled food) that I ever had was actually not so bad until I found out how it was made.  It is a traditional Kazakhi dish (very popular in Kazakhstan) called "kharta."  It is a very tender and tasty sausage.  Unfortunately, it is made from a horse's a**s, turned inside out and stuffed with fat from the horse.  I have not tried to make this dish at home, as the one tasting seems to have sufficed.

my friend's mom from the philipines made "chocolate meat" once. Sounds bad enough, but unfortunately chocolate had nothing to do with it.  It was basically a bunch of gristly pork meat ,all fatty and with cartilage, boiled in LOTS of its own BLOOD until the blood turned dark and curdled, plus way way way too much salt. I still have nightmares about that first (and last) spoonful i ate.
