  1. Most women give birth on their backs though its not uncommon to deliver standing up. You just have to do what feels most comfortable for you. The nurses will help situate you in whatever position feels the best. I think I had about 12 pillows under my butt when i delivered. Haha. Water birth makes different positions a little more complicated.

  2. Usually on your back is the hardest because your not able to push as hard. All depends on your situation; speak to your doc about your options. If you choose to have  an epidural you will be bed bound.

  3. I've heard of women giving birth in all different positions, but I only had one choice, on my back with my legs up in stirrups. My daughter started going into distress and they had to get her out NOW and I had to get an episiotomy and they used the vacuum (ventouse) to get her out.

Before I was told to lay like that, the only position I was comfortable laying in was on my left side curled up in the fetal position while having major contractions thinking I was going to die from the pain lol. I had a drug free birth. Will do it again for this one too.

You'll find your own position that you feel comfortable in and if you need help like I did, well then they'll tell you what you need to do

  4. giving birth on your back is the worst for mother, easiest for doctor to deliver. kinda backwards, if you ask me.

as far as other positions, you really have to move around and figure out what is most comfortable and then when the baby comes what position is going to assist your pushing the most. sometimes midwives have birthing stools, i think that looks the easiest.

the idea is to work WITH gravity instead of against it.

  5. OOh the worst postion is lying on your back i hated it and demanded to squat while i was pushing gravity works so much better that way!!

  6. Depends on who you ask.

Some people say on the back is the worst because it compresses nerves and muscles.

Doctors like it because it's the easiest for them.

When it comes down to pushing a child out of your body, I think mothers should have the freedom to choose what works best for them.

  7. It's best not to have you heart set on anything in particular. It's best to go with the flow as you really don't know what is going to happen when you give birth.

As long as you and the baby are okay it doesn't matter what position you are in.

The end result is all that really matters. Enjoy your bundle of joy!

  8. haha ur body will tell u wut way is rite

  9. Just depends on how the baby's coming out. Your body will know what to do.

  10. i agree with laura o. but personally i went for the drugs as i hate pain.

  11. Whatever feels comfortable at the time i guess.  But they say the best is anyway that gravity  assists eg, kneeling, squating or on all fours- the baby naturally needs to come 'down' and out so this is why gravity would help.

Try to avoid any position when you are on your back- of course this will probably be impossible if you are having epidural or other medical reasons as to why you couldnt do this.
