Ever saw that movie "The Day After Tomorrow"? Well they were pretty accurate (perhaps over dramatic) with scientific fact. Ice cap melting will decrease ocean salinity with in turn lowers the oceans ability to disperse heat poleward from equatorial waters. This initial heating will be a combination of factors including the inability of radiation to escape from our atmosphere as well as a decreased albedo from ice caps since they will melt from the increased temperature of the atmosphere from the said radiation. Its called a negative feedback mechanism. In all it will cause a dramatic shift in earth climatological patterns.
