What's this kind of turtle called?

They live over 100 years and get very large. They come from Egypt and need to be kept at 90 degrees. You have to put calci-sand in their habitat and once a week you lay them in a dish of water so they can soak up the water. I went to the pet store today and looked at one, but now I can't remember what it was called. I'd call the store but they're closed now.

Thanks!

  2. russian tortiose

  3. sounds like you are talking about a Sulcata (African spurred tortoise) from Africa not Egypt.

But you do not have to put calci-sand in their pens.

You can toss in a cuddle bone.

    Here is a site

    http://www.africantortoise.com/

The sulcata is the third largest land tortoise. Galapagos being first followed by the Aldabra then Sulcata. Leopard tortoise following them.

  4. DESERT TORTOISE, IT SOUNDS LIKE. THEY DO LIVE IN EGYPT, AND LIVE A LONG TIME IF TAKEN CARE OF. THEY EAT FRUIT AND VEGGIES, AND GRASS.

  5. Perhaps you're trying to find the Egyptian Tortoise?

  6. Well...

The Egyptian Tortoise lives in Egypt, but they are TERRIBLE and expensive pets.

Sulcata (African Spurred) Tortoises are great pets if you are ready for their HUGE size and behaviors.

What you describe really is not quite the recommended cares for most tortoises. Try http://www.tortoisetrust.org for good care ideas.
