What's this power called?

In the TV show Heroes, there's a guy that sees the future and makes paintings of what he sees. What would that ability be called, officially? I'm thinking clairvoyance, but since the guy doesn't really 'see' it, he paints it, would it have a different name? And just for curiosity's sake, do you think it's actually possible?

  1. yes its clairovoyance.. and it is possible.. however other ppl may not experience it in the same way.. my aunt has dreams of the future.. she has about a 70% accuracy.

denie, i thinkyou should carry on yuor drawings.. if you are scared to, you have to heal that..

  2. The tv is filling up these days with programs about ghosts and clairvoyance and psychics...  Unfortunately it's all nonsense - as dumb as astrology.  Sure, you can see into the future by imaging what might happen.  It's not magic - anybody can do it - I think it's called 'guessing'.  But all the miraculous stories one hears about psychics finding lost people - it's nonsense.

The proof that psychics or clairvoyance types don't actually exist is the existence of gambling.  There are gambling tables and machines from coast to coast.  If  it were suddenly possible to see into the future (even by a couple minutes) or manipulate physical objects with your mind, gambling would end immediately.  No one would continue to invest in gambling machines if they no longer made good money for their owners.  But gambling continues uninterrupted.

  3. Seeing the future is having a premonition. This also is sometimes called precognition.

Some experiments have provided positive evidence for this ability while others have not.

Clairvoyance is simply a form of ESP in which you acquire information by other than normal means that you process visually and usually implies the present not the future.

I'm not familiar with how his ability is presented on the show but if he sees what he paints it's still precognition, if he doesn't know what he is painting until it is finished than another name might have to be used (one where not vision but motion is used to bring the information to awareness).

I think something like precognitive kinesis would be a descriptive term.

    Psi

  4. If it's knowing the future (without seeing it), then it's known as - precognition.  There's a theory that "De ja vu" is actually precognition, but without remembering it at first (normally because your "vision" was in a dream-state) and then recalling it as it happens.

  5. Clairvoyance is receiving information from objects or events from the present.

Precoginition is receiving information about objects or events from a future time.

Different people have different ways of expressing what they see from the present or the past. Most people do not know how to develop these abilities and tend to block or ignore them. While I do not watch this show I can say that painting is a form of focusing these abilities from thought to form. Basically, painting (or drawing, writing, etc.) tends to put people is a state of near hypnosis in which they are able to bring these abilities into focus. For some meditation, out-of-body experiences (Edgar Cayce) or even while sleeping help create this connection to future information.

  6. I do not know if there is an official name for this  but I refer to it as psychic art. I have done this randomly through out my life... but never delved into it, I have been thinking of doing this myself (more controlled) now. Many people draw or paint guides that come to them. I would like to draw as I am talking to someone and see what I get. I gather you might want to liken this to automatic writing.

  7. You're right; it's clairvoyance.

You don't have to "see" it to be clairvoyant, you just have to know it.

    And no, i don't think it's impossible.

  8. It would be a form of Clairvoyance.

  9. Clairvoyance is one name, Remote Viewing is another.  It's possible.  More than possible.

  10. it is a sign that clarivoyance is present and being practiced. We look at Nostradomus, he was clarivoyant to a heightend level. I think it depends how the gifted person displays their gift and how they use it I do think it is there however

  11. That's correct. The power of foresight or looking into the future is called clairvoyance. Seeing is not a requirement, just a knowledge or a mental vision of a future event.

  12. Believe it or not...(and most probably won't) ..this happened to me. That's why I won't draw anything anymore. It was either that..or someone was watching me draw or finding my drawings..and making them happen. When I first realized it was happening..it was fascinating. I would only try to draw good things. But, they would get turned around and sometimes turn out to be something bad. Call me paranoid...but I won't draw any more because of it.(I don't have to tell this and set myself up for being called "crazy"..but it might be important for someone else to hear.)

edit..Sometimes..or usually..I'd be "overcome" with the desire to draw something..and it wouldn't leave me alone until I did.

Edit..Coolio..that's the main reason I stopped..I was afraid I was "making it happen". (yes..it can make you "paranoid"! lol)

Coolio..Thanks for that link on Mandell. I feel better now!

  13. theres actually a guy who can paint the future he has dreams about the future and paints it then takes a pic in front of a clock proving he drew it before the event happened. He predictied twin towers attack and more. David mandell is his name
