  1. Turmeric is a spice that gives a yellowish color to foods.  It's often included in many tofu scramble recipes to give it the yellowy color.  It's often incorrectly called poor girl's saffron, but the flavors are dissimilar.

    It's absolutely vegan.

  2. It's a spice.Yes it's vegan :D

  3. a spice  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turmeric

  4. its a spice , yes its vegan

  5. It's a spice. It comes from a root that's similar to ginger root, but it doesn't taste like ginger. It is completely vegan.

It tastes somewhat like hot mustard, but much milder (you need to use a lot to be able to taste it). It has an extremely bright yellow color, and it's used in Indian cuisine to add color to curry. It's also used to color some types of soda and snacks, even in the US, and sometimes as an organic fabric dye.

If you use it,be very careful with you cook with it or when you eat it- it stains pots and fabrics really bad.

  6. Tumeric is often used as a spice.  It is vegan.  Might I recommend a google/wikipedia search in the future?  Would provide more information.

  7. Yes, it looks kind of like ginger but skinnier and a little darker.

    It has antiseptic properties.

  8. Yay! I love turmeric!! Its vegan and delicious! You should try it on rice... its really good!!

  9. Definitely vegan. It's a yellow spice made from the root of a plant. Commonly used in India for cooking, religious rituals and it is alleged to have health benefits. There are no animal ingredients in turmeric. Indians call it haldi. It's also called curcumin (not to be confused with cumin, which is a different spice). It's one of the most common ingredients in curry powder.

I'm married to a Hindu, we wore haldi roots around our necks at our wedding, we cook with it a lot, and we got some weird yellow skin ointment from India called Vicco Turmeric. My wife puts haldi on the foreheads and feet of religious statues and pictures on Hindu holy days.

  10. Like everyone said, it's a spice.  Just wanted to add that it has anti-inflammatory properties as well.
