What's up with kids and teens these days?

Well, I myself am a 16 year old teenage girl. It seems like kids are into way mature stuff for their age by the time they hit highschool. I mean more than half the people i know lost their virginity by the time they were 14, drinks/parties in gade 8, smokes in secondary one and are more focused on boys/girls than school. I'm not saying you should be perfect, but to think more about your grades. I may sound like a nerd, but I'm not. I'm fun outgoing person that respects herself, yes I like to party and be crazy, thats fine.

Does anyone agree or am I totally wrong. Because my friends think I'm too "good", I'm just not into that kind of stuff. Is that completely crazy for a 16 years old or what?

  1. Haha, and I thought I was the only one. Don't worry, I'm going through the same thing. Everyone is sleeping around including my friends and now I'm the ONLY one who's still a virgin. I love how they turn the tables on you! It's almost as if I'm the wrong one/left out, but really these people are stupid and they all regret it much later. It's apparently "normal" to sleep around every weekend, drink, and smoke weed. I wasn't around this environment until I got into high school. I didn't even know what weed exactly was until 9th grade! I hate how you're the only sane/normal one and everyone ends up calling you a prude and telling you to get laid etc. They're all whores! I just want to say don't EVER let your friends define who you are. If you hang out with the wrong crowd what they are doing will seem "normal" to you and you will end up like them! My best friend used to be a really good girl and when she became friends w/these ppl in high school she changed A LOT. She never wanted to lose her virginity until she got married (and she did at 16) and she thought smoking weed was really bad (did that 16) for you, she even started shoplifting (16). I began to see a side to her that really wasn't like her at all. I couldn't even help her stay good because I moved to a different city. Her whole life she was a good girl and then she started letting lose. She promised herself she would never drink because her dad was an alcoholic and she even did that. I'm still friends w/ her but I was kind of really hurt that she was making REALLY bad choices. I know I'm going off on a

tangent but that's one example where high schoolers go too wild. They're just stupid sometimes..

    I can't believe I'm embarrassed because I'm still a virgin at 17

technically that's not a bad thing but in high school it's "unnatural" to be "soooo old" *SARCASM*

  2. Goodness, I think the same thing. :/ I'm just 17 and I've not even had a BF... I don't want one, actually... I just want to mess around and be a kid... I just want to have fun before the free-ride is over and I have to find a job and buy a house and pay taxes and learn how to handle a mortgage.

And let me tell you, I love these teens who are still in highschool but think they're going to be in love forever. They get engaged and everything. Then, a few months later when it ends badly, I laugh to myself. Sometimes I feel like the only sane person in my highschool.

It astounds me how 'mature' some teens are today. By 'mature' I mean, sleeping around and drinking. Honestly, I think we just may be the mature ones. o_O

  3. no ur right i totally agree on daht 14 nd i dnt be going to parties i dnt even date daht much kids r trying to be adults now dese dayy i concentrate on my school work im not a nerd either i like talking bout boys nd suff buht i protect my self and i concentreate on my school  work  too buht i aint one of does crazyy 14 years old ur talking bout a respect my self  i dnt go do things daht r crazy my opinion on meh is daht i think u should wait till marriage to lose iht just wen ur in ur 20 dnt mess up u life and make a mistake i agree wit dnt worry bout wat ppl think of u

  4. i so agree and im 13 and i do drink but not alot only shandy or 1 can of cider a week if not that and well i dont wanna lose my virginity till im 18 or older and well i think its stupid that kids that are so young do stupid things like have kids at 16 and things like that! my bro is 17 and his girlfriends 16 and is having a baby in november which is stupid! im glad im not the only one that thinks this....

  5. Just the culture that is around now. Alot of things contribute to this like magazines,TV,celebrities starting trends and the lack of discipline enforced by parents who try to be cool by letting their kids do things they wouldn't have been able to do when they were younger but that in turn is driving them down the wrong path. The list goes on but suffice to say its mostly pressure to just fit in and not stand out anymore really. Like you said yourself you respect yourself to make your own decisions and thats really nice to see. Highschool doesn't last forever and the more mature and ready you are for life the easier its going to be for you to transition than having it bitchslap you in the face like what alot of kids these days will face.

  6. If you feel good about who you are so thats very good.

Lets hope that things get better for others one day and they think more about there life style.

  7. Because they are spoiled by their parents and they do not know how fortunate they live and don't know how the poor children suffer in the poor countries like in africa nowadays. and focus on those stuff like fashion and wears like a w***e instead of studying hard.

  8. I completely agree, im 16 myself and i'll admit that I am indeed a virgin and I have never gotten drunk or high.I've been with my boyfriend for 4 months and i feel no need to rush anything. When you say mature stuff, it's really them being immature. They're ruining their lives, school is important because college comes next and without college you don't have much of a chance. None of my friends do anything like that either, and it dosen't mean were nerds. Teens these days just don't understand the long term effects. And your friends shouldn't think that you're 'too good'. Find people that agree with you :)

  9. stick to what you think is best for you and forget about influences
