What's up with my engine? ?

So, I recently bought a 1995 Mitsubishi 3000gt for a fun little play around car. If I ever got sick of it, I hoped to sell it for profit. It was running fine, I drove it downstate and all over the place and put about 700 miles on it since the 15th of August. It had a slow leak in oil as I found out the oil pan needed a new gasket. So, one day I had it sitting in my garage and also found that there was a redish fluid, so I knew it was leaking trans fluid as well. I took it to a shop and they had it running up on the lift. They were going crazy spraying brake cleaner all around the car, when all of a sudden it started making a knocking noise while up on the lift. When it came down, it seemed to still be making it. I drove it home, but it seemed to get louder and louder and not go above 50 mph. I idled it and still heard the noise. I finally shut off the car and came back a few hours later and now it won't turn over. Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong?

Since they were spraying brake cleaner all around the car (assuming they were looking for the exact location of the leaks) there is the possibility that some of the cleaner, which is obviously not a good lubricant for internals, got into the block and wore out a rod bearing creating dreaded rod knock.

That is one possibility of what could have happened, or, you could be really low on oil, but you'd more than likely hear a loud ticking coming from the top of the engine before a rod bearing would give.

I would suggest bringing your car to a different shop that is ASE certified and have them take a look at it after you've explained what happened at the other shop.

hope they didnt spray any brake cleaner into carb  if engine is knocking not a good think knock sensor or just and old beat up worn out engine could have run hot piston rods knocking low oil pressure ?there are a few things it could be didnt say how many miles on the engine sounds like you got takin for a ride sounds like you bought a lemmon and the person who sold it to you probably new things were bad and probably put tranny stop leak and oil stop leak  to hold it off untill he sold it  good luck sounds like you'll need it

It sounds like low oil pressure, sometimes you need to check your oil pressure gauge, to make sure you have the right level of oil, look at the Dipstick, there will be a High level fill mark and a Low level fill mark, if your oil level goes below the Low Level Mark, you'l need to top it up.  The RED oil does sound like transmition fluid, what ths specially formulated oil does, is to lubricate very High Speed COGS in your gearbox.  There is only one way to find out the level of oil in your gearbox and that is to get underneath the car, making sure it's safe, i normally use a set of Ramps and two bricks (as an anti-roll mechanism, one underneath each wheel.  In your case, the front of your car has to be driven up onto the ramps, this is only to check to see if there is any transmition oil, in the gearbox, and at what level it's at.  If there is, you will need to check the level, of the oil in your gearbox, you can only do this when your car is level, so as to get a correct reading, then fill up to the requred mark, if need be.

sounds like the motor was run with no oil pressure :(

It sounds like the engine seized up. It was probably almost out of oil, which caused it to seize up. Looks like it's time for a new engine.
