I'm 18 years-old and I just started college. Basically all summer through now I've had a lot of anxiety. I feel like I don't enjoy things as much as I should because I'm constantly a little worried. I was a big pothead and then I just started feeling more down when I smoked so I stopped recently. All I want to do is stop constantly worrying and just enjoy my college life. I want to believe it's something I could deal with without medication. Any advice would be awesome.

  1. Don't overthink it. College is the time to have fun, to learn how to balance work and study. Concentrate on discovering yourself. Look for clubs around campus to join, activities to participate in. Relax. Have fun. Worrying never solved anything. Every time a negative thoughts enters your mind think the opposite of it. Initially its going to be hard and its also going to feel weird thinking positive thoughts, but with practise things will improve.

    All the best to ya!

  2. You probably will be fine. It is normal for you to feel a lot of anxiety because you are doing two important things. You are going from one important phase in your life to another and you are getting over an addiction. As you found out pot is a depressant that makes you feel wacky when your anxiety is high. Now you can go to college with wide eyes and absorb everything!

Your nerves will honestly calm down a few months after you start school and when you become familiar with the routine, your classes, make new friends, etc. Good luck to you!

  3. A lot of people on pot have depression which descends into narcosis then into black depression, they then start to paint dark depressive picture scenes of devils and such like. They then turn to acid or cocaine, even heroin, then suicide! Don't go down that path! seek counselling.

  4. The same thing happened to one of my friends. He used to smoke weed ALL THE TIME (24/7), for four years, and he said that it completely damaged his brain. You lose touch with reality if you smoke that much. But the good news is that the "anxiety" and depression feeling wears off after a while, especially if you do things you enjoy! So try to enjoy life as much as you can; keep yourself busy with activities and friends. You're only 18, you have LOTS of time ahead of you. Just don't smoke up anymore (or if you do it, keep it at a minimum)!

    You'll be fine.

I have a question though... You know how you said you used to smoke a lot, well, my question is, after you stopped, did you REPLACE it with anything (like another activity, that's good for you)? Because if you didn't, then that might be where the anxiety is coming from! Because before you would always smoke, but now, you have all this time on your hands...and what do you do with it? Your best bet is to go to the gym... seriously! It really helps when I'm depressed. And, after a short while, it makes you feel super confident and like you accomplished something worthwhile. So I don't know if you already go, but if you don't, you should definately give it a try!

DO NOT GO ON MEDICATION! It's not good for you at all... it's basically another kind of drug, and it's probably much worse than weed! Your anxiety is nothing that can't be cured without meds! Just hang in there. Like I said, you'll be fine!

  5. Well, it's normal to be like this. To be perfectly honest, I know what you're going through. I had to quit for school and whatnot. You're used to using weed to make you feel better and not have to worry about things. But now you don't have that outlet so you're having to endure the scariness of it all.

For a while, it will be kind of hard, but trust me, it will get easier to deal without it. And after a while you'll kind of get fuzzy on how it even felt and then you won't really want to do it as much.
