  1. being lazy or mean something else or slang

  2. Yeah, what sup wit dat?

  3. I have been meaning to ask the same thing. I've seen G-d, L*rd, and

J-s-s on more than one occasion and kept thinking of the Islamic fundies who through a hissy fit over that cartoon of the prophet. Is this some holier than thou affectation?

  4. Its an ancient jewish tradition having to do with not being able to say the name of god...which is funny because gods name isn't god...or...wouldn't be even if he existed...however, some christians to keep face have adopted this as well

  5. Some religions , like the Jewish religion, forbid Man from writing the name of their deity, so to obey this, Jews will write G_D instead.

  6. For some people the word god is too sacred to even write. Is it a blasphemy to even think of the word GOD?

But how does one pronounce G-D?

  7. Do you really want to get in to a grammar & punctuation lesson?

You get the drift as written so get on with it.

  8. According to the Jews you are not supposed to say the name of God.

    Some Christians say that too.

They forget that their God's name isn't God.

    It is Yahweh.

  9. I think they just miss type it. G-D is not guiding their efforts.

  10. just disrespectful that's all.

  11. it's a sign of reverence.

  12. Nothing more than misplaced reverence. In fact, "God" is only a word, not the reality it refers to. It is not even an ancient sacred name of deity, only an English rendition.

  13. I'm sure God is NOT sitting up in his Heaven going "Why are they still putting the 'O' in?  What is up with those dis-respectful little goons?  Okay...where's the she-bear?  I see 'God" written out one more time with the vowel in it, I'm getting the she-bear!"

Jesus warned us we'd cling to the letter of the law more than spirit of it...I'm guessing these people's obsession goes further than we know...

  14. The history of that is quite interesting. In ancient times teachers gave out secret spiritual practices accompanied by a "secret word" of God... like a name. It was a type of covenant, and they were supposed to keep what they learned to themselves.

So the idea that God's word was never to be spoken came from that.

And when teaches speak of the "secret mysteries" it is a reference to this kind of thing. More on my bio if you are interested.

  15. It is a sign of respect for the deity to avoid making any material representation, including writing the word.  The thinking is that, once having written, the writer is responsible for what he has written.  It would not do to have the sacred name torn, soiled or burned, so it is rendered imperfectly so that no insult can be given.
