I have a 32 inch HD T.V. but when i view certain movies i get those black bars at the top & bottom. Is there a way i can get rid of those bars or do i have to buy a wider screen t.v.? I tried to adjust the aspect ratio but it does no good, it'll get rid of the bars but zooms the picture in to close.

  1. To put it simply, there are two main types of widescreen format that movies are filmed in. Most widescreen movies will show perfectly on your TV, but every once and while you will find a movie that was shot in a wider  widescreen angle than your TV. There is nothing wrong with your TV and your only options when you watch these movies would be to zoom in on it and decrease the picture quality or deal with the black bars. Do not buy full screen movies, they will look much worse!

  2. Grab some of the DVDs you own, have a look at the back.  You'll see a selection of different aspect ratios.  You'll see 2.4:1, 2.35:1, 1.85:1, etc.

Your TV's aspect ratio is 16:9, or 1.78:1.  When you've got content with a different aspect ratio, your choices are:

    1. Watch it as-is, as it was intended to be viewed

    2. Watch it in a zoomed format, losing parts of the picture.

    3. Watch it in the much hated Stretch-o-vision format which distorts the picture.

  3. i work at sears electronics.. and i get that question all the time bro.

    so here is the answer.

remember when you used to see "this film has been cut down or scaled down to fit your tv" yeah, basically that means you miss scenes and stuff.

with all the new LCDs, the made the screen wider and put up the bars on top and bottom. so you can see the FULL picture, no cuts or scale downs.. certain movies will have those bars because they were shot with wide angle.

nothing you can really do but zoom, and that kills your quality tho

    hope that helps man

  4. Don't know if this helps, but try getting full screen movies instead of wide screen movies.
