  1. Whitewater kayaking describes running a kayak in Grade I thru Grade VI rapids. You will tip over...you need to practice 'wet exits'. You will wet your legs. Wear water shielding clothing, long sleeves and pants. Wear boating shoes and a helmet. A PFD is most necessary. Water temperature will dictate the type of clothing. Don't kayak without adequate instructions! Learn the safety rules. Best...attend a kayak school!

  2. It's awesome!

If it's your first time, your chances of tipping over are quite high. If you've practiced on flat water, you will know that the whitewater kayaks are quite tippy and the river currents can easily flip you if you lean the wrong way.

If you wet exit, your legs will get wet. That said, you should wear a wetsuit or drysuit. Make sure you know how to wet exit before you hit the river. If you are more intrepid, you could learn to T-rescue or even roll, but these are not as reliable methods for beginners. Still if you get better at them, you won't have to swim.
