Question:

What's with Girls bikes and guys bikes?

I have often wondered why girls bikes and guys bikes are designed the way they are in regard to where the top bar is placed downwards on girls bikes, but on guys bikes, it goes right across...wouldn't a guy be less likely to get his balls smashed on a girls design than a guys?

  1. Well I think the primary reason for this is since guys tend to be taller than women, when the top bar is straight insteand of down, that gives the bike a taller frame, and is suited for taller riders. A lot of tall riders have problems with bikes made for people with a shorture stature, plus if you are a tall guy and you ride a women's bike, you'll be at an unnatural position, and it'll be harder to get around faster and also put more stress on your muscles. However, I do agree with you about the balls part. I have had times while bike riding to having that problem with the straight bar, and I'm always careful about that.

But where I live a lot of people ride bikes, and a lot of men ride womens' bikes, and a lot of women ride mens' bikes. There are some people that don't even know about the difference, and others that choose a bike on its frame size.

  2. In the old days when women wore dresses all the time, the lower tube on a girls bike was for step-thought. All the tubes on a "regular" frame feed into one another, distributing the stress (one of the best engineering feats in history).

  3. Not all bikes are designed like that. Bikes that have the bar across the top are generally more rugged. The bar adds an extra brace to sturdy the bike. I'm guessing that the bar is low on girl bikes because when bicycles were first introduced girls wore dresses. With the low bar they can get on their bicycle without worries while wearing a dress. That is my guess anyway.

  4. your right, I'm sure that when the whole girl, guys bike thing was first done probably in like the 30's they didn't have guys balls being smashed in mind. Also the reason its so hard to try to change is because everyone already accepts the whole bar thing as a fact and it would be foolish for a bike company to try to change.
