Question:

What's with all the news about Zimbabwe?

What does the U.S. care about a country in Africa that seems to be going into depression? I feel like this is going to be another African news story that will be forgotten in a month, like Darfur, or Nigeria. Is this some random sad story the media is using to get ratings up again? Sorry for the cynicism but it's true.

  1. Mugabe is looking for more paper to print money.

  2. It doesn't matter what the US thinks of Zimbabwe.  It doesn't matter what goes on in Zimbabwe.   They happily voted that idiot into office and now they are suffering for it.  They all hated Whitey and threw them out, now they are starving.

The world would like to do something about it but they can't.   The UN won't let them.   Russia and China like it that way and they have the veto.    So an entire nation can starve to death because of their foolishness and the UN says" too bad man".

Most of the hunger, if not all of the poverty in Africa is because the Africans are too busy killing each other.  They can't seem to set up a functioning economy or agricultural system, let alone a functional government.

They have turned an entire continent into  a welfare state.

  3. Zimbabwe currently has begun to print 5 million dollar note. That means the United States dollar is worth 5 million dollars in Zimbabwe. There must be a major depression in Zimbabwe. There is not an agency to protect those who have bank account in Zimbabwe such as the Federal Deposit Insurance C. which will the insurers accounts to $100,000 dollars.

  4. It's a slow news day.

  5. I think the US is just trying to do the right thing. They're trying to show to the world that they do care, but the sad reality of it all is that, like you said, it will be forgotten in a month. There may be a lot of news about Zimbabwe at the moment, but it's just for a little while longer. You say the same thing happened with Darfur and Nigeria. Well, it also happens with other countries around the world, like Burma and Kosovo.

The bigger countries just want to make it seem like they care, and after a while the story dies out and we almost never hear about it again. Meanwhile, people in the affected countries are still suffering daily, we just don't hear about it because our big and powerful countries have moved onto other stories that will die down in another month.

  6. Last I heard, about 10 days ago, the internationl community authorized an arrest warrant for Mugabe. Crimes against humanity. I have not heard anything since. One way or the other.
