What's with being sealed with a kiss?

What's so different about something that is sealed with a kiss? And why must it be sealed with a kiss? Can a kiss really seal something? Aren't adhesive tapes more practical?

In the good old days, important documents (to ensure its secrecy) were sealed with wax bearing the imprint of the sender.  Not to be outdone, the romantics (people like us, sweetie) would implant a kiss on their stationery and send their missives literally sealed with a kiss.  With the advent of emails, we just use the emoticons. hehehe

  4. Snail mail envelopes has a sticky gum that you have to seal with your wet tongue (french kiss), You have to put the initials S.W.A.K. on the Flap.
