Nowadays, 10 year olds wear make-up, have myspaces, try to act S****y because they think they're cool, and have boyfriends. Whatever happened to a nice game of hide-and-seek?

  1. im 14 and my friends and i get together at least 5 nights a week to play hide and seek, tag, games, outside, and just talk

    its so nice

    its not all of us.

  2. I don't know.  I miss childhood - or my notions of it.

Camping in the backyard.  Watching s****. Doo before going off to school where the biggest drama was whose turn it was to 'donate' the beanie-bag for Purple-Elephant Tag (this awesome game we invented involving tag and beanie babies and mad throwing skills and various fun-ness).

I look now and the kids' stores are full of thongs and mini skirts.  My entire wardrobe consisted of shirts with puppies and kittens until I was about 12.  Now it's all lip-glosses, low cut, short, s*x-ed up c**p.

I wonder what it is?  To some degree I think maybe the parents are allowing too much too soon.  At the same time you can't completely cut off your kids from the influences.  Look at Bratz dolls and Barbies?  Faces full of makeup, trashy clothes.  The stars in the media, the other girls' at school  They're being exposed to more sooner.

  3. I always wonder the same thing!  Things are so different now from how it was when I was 10 and that was only 10 years ago.

I think its because parents spoil their kids more and more and because of people like Miley Cyrus.  Hopefully this is just a short term thing.

  4. who cares?

i could understand if you were a parent, but as an innocent bystander, this is not your problem, nor mine. if children choose to act this way, that is their decision, and we are not their parents/guardians to criticize how they act. if their parents allow them to act this way, then that also is THEIR decision.

Maybe we should, as their role models, do things differently if you are so concerned. I learned to be the way I am by observing friends and family, so don't go ranting on children, when it may be your fault in the first place.

  5. Okay, Im a teenager and I do know what you are talking about..

To be honest, we all want to look good in front of our friends. We all know that. Okay I'll cut to the point, mob mentality-ish. We all get influenced by the adults and we want to do the same.Somehow in classrooms nowadays, if you dont have a myspace, you'll be called a lowlife and you wouldnt be praised much. Its somehow liek the race for friends. The 18 years olds acted that way, so now somehow we want to act that way.. We are usually under the influence of those older teenagers. AND TV, just watch what your kids are watching on TV nowadays besides spongebob and those cartoons. Not really helpful but Im just talking whats on mind.

  6. I agree.I am 13,don't have a myspace,i rarely wear make-up and when i do its mascara and a low key eyeshadow and lip gloss,i don't try to be like VAnessa Anne Hudgens a.k.a S****y ha ha and i enjoy a great game of hide and go seek. And i don't wear ambercrommbie or however you spell it everybody looks the same these day wearing those A&F logo shirts i mean come on!Hah i have a lot to say in this so brace your selves! hah

Seriously kids watch too much things these days, and most of them things they shouldn't.And im 13 i don't have a boyfriend,I'm not allowed to have one,and i don't want one,it's OVERRATED! I think Disney channel has a lot to do with this. They have The Jonas bothers and Miley Cyrus on MTV and then the children keep watching mtv and before you know your 11 year olds favorite show is the real world. And our Culture is very "s**y".Which brings me to another thing,a lot of kids my age know what stuff like blow jobs are and personally i would prefer not to know what these things are. It's pretty much nasty!I think teens/preteens should try being different.everybody's wearing the SAME thing it's a bunch of clones,And everybody's in to being "hippies" yeah right say world peace really you want but you don't even know about the government and what would happen if we had "world peace"I think coexisting is a much better thing to say but thats only cause i wanna be different.and so should everybody else. Thanks if you took time to read this,I've gotten too lazy to finish typing everything :/

and if your a teen go play tag :]

  7. Our oversexualized culture.

Take a look at television, movies, and magazines.

    It's all about being 's**y'.

Oh, and don't even get me started on abercrombie or Hollister.

  8. Hi Jen.  I am a parent and I really know what you mean.  Kids are really different as compared during our time.  Well first of all, kids now have all the cool gadgets they can get their hands on.  Now playing with PSP or X box has removed interaction with other kids.  During our time, after doing our homework, all we had to do was play with our playmates.  Kids these days are more exposed to television and movies, computers and internet.  This again takes their time for personal interaction.  Personal interaction meaning running around, biking, swimming at many other outdoor activities that you can do with your friends.  There is also peer pressure and I mean trying to fit in to what society expects of them.  But what does society expect of them.  At 10 years old, it is still time to grow up.  The teen years are still time to learn about what the real world is about.  Don't rush kids.  Enjoy your childhood and teenage years.  Once you grow up, there is no turning back.  Please listen to your parents for they have gone through a lot or have a lot of experience is real life.  Talk to them and try to find out what "life" is really like.

  9. Ugh yeah. Last year I volunteered at my old elementary school in the library and one day they did the whole internet safety talk for a group of 4th graders. Exactly the same as the one I heard when I was in 4th grade, but then the librarian brought up myspace and asked how many of the kids had a page. About half. About half of the freaking 4TH GRADERS. What the h**l????

    Yeah, well, done with that.

So just trying to say that I'm 14, I don't have a myspace and still love playing hide-and-seek. I haven't even had a boyfriend and quite frankly I neither want nor have a need for one yet.... Kids need to stop trying so hard and.... You know what? They just need to stop, period.

  10. I'm 10 and i wear mascara and sometimes wears skirts that are too short and we are into dating and dancing dirty.Well me and my friends talk about growing up,s*x,and we cuss .btw,

    http://limitedtoo.com/

it is not bad they are exspensive!

  11. Most kid who do act way more mature do it for attention, i have a cousin who is 11 and act like this, its mostly because her parent will let her get away with anything and she hangs out with people older than her. another reason is because of the media and there role models. when kids did play hide-and-seek media didnt have such a impact as it does today. there isnt really much to do about it and most parents (im not saying all of them) who do have children like this thinks its just a phase that will soon pass.

  12. No kidding! I look at the girls who are in 6th grade and I can't believe it; all of their innocence seems to be lost. Everyone wants to grow up so fast. When I babysit, the grade schoolers I sit for are so mean. Even to me! Wow...

  13. Because their parents allow them to watch people like Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton, etc. They let them pick out their own clothes or give them money and drop them off at the mall with their friends with no supervision. Have you seen the clothes at Limited II? I would't dress my dog in some of the garbage they pass off as fashion unless I wanted them to look like a hooker.

  14. "Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers." Socrates 470-399 B.C.

  15. I am 14 and have never had a boyfriend (I don't want one!), or  a my space, and I don't wear makeup. But I totally agree with the boyfriend thing with 10 year olds! I have a friend that I have known since birth and she said she had a "boyfriend' in 4th grade! I mean, come on! It is ridiculous that the words boyfriend and recess are being used in the same sentence! In 4th grade, I would help the art teacher during recess not out getting boyfriends!.

  16. Kids emulate what they see.  The see all this on tv.

Young tv and movie stars are going to bars way before they are legally allowed, but the owners turn a blind eye to get someone famous in their club.  They are driving drunk and getting  a slap on the wrist, with their promise to do a public service announcement against drinking and driving.  Teen pregnancy and the shows  that allow those doing it to remain on tv as if they are saying they are GOOD ROLE MODELS!

Parents that want to be their childs friend instead of their parent and they allow them to do things that a good parent wouldn't allow their child to do.  They set no limits for their child and endulge them at every turn, they don't make them be responsible for their actions and they bail their child out when they should be letting their child learn the consequences of their actions.

And then you have "experts" who(don't generally have children, so they are basing all their theory on just that theory) tell parents, teachers, etc. that everyone should be made to feel equal.  that they should go out of their way to make no on feel special or stand out as  unique.  so the child that studies extra hard and makes excellent grades is suppose to be overlooked(as are their accomplishments and efforts) so that the child who flaked off studing for anything, who didn't bother to do any homework, who disrupts the class can be made to feel special and not inferior to the child who did all the work.  They go out of their way to make THIS child feel special, and forget anyone who makes an effort or trys to do well.

Children are given computers and cell phones as a means of entertainment, and are not monitered by their parents.  These are things that no child should have because they enable the child to get themselves in deep trouble.

  17. thanks.

    im in middle school

    and i wear make up

    dont have a myspace

    and have had boyfriends.

and even if you say some kids, its still gerarlizing.

some girls are hoes. but some arnt. and before you go around asking judgemental questions, think about who mighnt read.

i dont liike being called a s**t because i wear makeup,  and dont play hideand seek

  18. Because we are free individuals with equal rights. And you're being stereotypical.

I'm 12, I have a MySpace that I use maybe twice a year, tops, I wear a little mascara, or bronze eyeshadow, but basically any make up costs a dollar. And i don't act like a stripper or prostitute. I don't like the cold. Or the stares. (Granted, some guy about 17 keeps staring at me like a perv, and I was wearing knee length jeans, overlapping shirt, collar of shirt to collar bone, come on, it was church camp!)

  19. I agree, my friends 9 year old sister has had 5 boyfriends, wears more make-up than all of my friends combined and she wears things I know even bathing suite models wouldn't wear. I am 16 and I have more modesty than this kid.

  20. I definetly think it's lack of attention at home. Most parents now both have to work and unfortunately family time isn't big anymore. I agree with you if kids are acting like this now what the h**l will they be doing in 10 years. It's crazy I know my kids won't be like that. People judge me for being to hard on my kids but sorry I refuse to allow my kids to do whatever they want and then when they grow up they can't say that I failed them as a mom.

  21. I agree! I think it has alot to do with the way kids are raised these days. There are a lot more influences now then there were say 10 years ago. More TV, more adds, more of everything really. Also, parent's are raising their children differently, they aren't spanking, they aren't as strict and the list goes on and on. I think both of those have to do with the way kids are these days.

  22. i agree.

    its completely ridiculous!

why are people bringing hannah montana into this?

if little 10 yr olds are taking S****y pictures then that's the parents fault not mileys, didn't nobody say they had to look up to her.

and besides it's not like 10 yr olds are going to look up mileys pictures or anything!

  23. I know what you mean!! I know of a girl in middle school in my town who started wearing miniskirts and all abercrombie in like 5th or 6th grade. Now she has had a bf for 3 months and thinks she is ready to have s*x! It completely ridiculous. Heck, I'm 17 and haven't had a bf...

  24. whats with parents these days... no doubt they have some control over the situation the reason is probably people like hanna montanna and that all pop music especially rap is about that stuff. Also you must not collect a group of people together and judge them all the same way what if i said "what's with black people these days?" thats not right.

  25. yup at least someone came out and said something :) my 14 yr old sister is the same way she thinks shes popular for being an emo and a s**t like 50 boyfriends in a year its stupid id ask her why do u act like a s**t and she just says idk or NO IM NOT its retarded i want to slap her

  26. It is because of the influence of movies on TV, an the computer ,kids are learning a lot faster than the last generation, and they develop very quickly and instead they play hide and seek, they go with their lovers in some deserted places where they will be alone and not seen by any body, and make out together like they see on the movies

  27. i ask the same question. I have a NINE year old in my Sunday school class that had her hair highlighted. It's ridiculous. When I was 10 I wasn't even allowed to LOOK at make up, let a lone wear it. Clear lip gloss was okay.

So they are the reason for prowlers and predators and moms and dads cry not understanding why their "innocent" baby Hahahaha LOL! fell victim to a prowler.

When I was a kid, it was hopscotch, marbles, hide and seek, tag and all of that fun stuff . I think today's kids are influenced by such lovely role models such as Hannah Montana, and you know the perfect role models for today's young ladies.

  28. I'm 17. I never wear make-up. I just got a myspace about 2 months ago to talk to family. I think that they thing they will become popular if they do all those things. Now you hear about 10 year olds getting pregnant and the first thing that comes to my mind is how do they even know how to have s*x. It is so sad that they can't have normal childhoods anymore. Granted, this isnt the case for all 10 year olds. Some are good and don't do such things but it is truly sad for all those who do act so grown up.

  29. a huge lack of parental guidence !!! i have a daughter who never allowed to mouth off to her elders and when i was a kid, if i did that c**p i would have got an ***-beating .. thats what most of these little monsters need but, the new laws prevent you from whackin' their asses !!! and the schools enforce this c**p and turn you in if the kid even suggests something may be a little off..  the kids know this and play it for all its worth.. when was the last time you told your dad to shut up, or go to h**l ?   or my favorite---"im a minor you a*****e.  better let me do what i want to or i'll call the cops !!! "   yes... i have heard kids talk to their parents like this and, they take it because they are scared !!  gotta love the laws... stupid !! now alot of these kids are out of control 'cause they can get away with it and they know it... look at the jails .. full of 18-30 year olds.. thousands more then ever !!!   to be fair.. there are alot of kids out there that are polite and care for what their parents say and do.. not many but some..  and --no... my daughter still loves me and has always treated me with respect ! i didn't have to beat her to get it either.. alot of time with her and, trust above all !!

  30. Exactly I was throwing a party for my eight year old god daughter in Chucky cheese. Next thing you know I see a bunch of prostitots all over the place and their moms were worse. Apparently showing your independence means showing your sniz. Girls are growing up too fast and getting pregnant younger that's a d**n shame.

  31. lmaoo its cuz we, the teens, are bad role models [=

no but honestly, i think we shud allllllll blame hannah montanah/miley cyrus, whatever. or how about mary kate or was it ashley? shes a aneroxic crack addict. how do u go from full house to rehab!!!?? im telling u, its what goes around these kids, that effects them.
