Question:

What's with the Hot Girl/Average Guy films?

Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Superbad, Euro Trip, American Pie, etc..

I mean, it's great to see a nice twist to movie couple pairings...but what about an average girl*/hot guy pairing?

Movies like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "Real Women Have Curves" were great...so what's with these dumb frat boy flicks. Is the idea of a plain Jane being wooed by Apollo-incarnated too weird to grasp for most movie goers?

*average in accordance to "Hollywood" standards...not my own.

  1. Wishful thinking.

Most films are written and directed by NERDS who really don't get any action...until they start making really good movies and get attention.

I know its not REALLY like that. I date attractive women and I know how THEY operate as well. George Costanza ain't gettin' any action... sorry.

  2. I think women are generallly more attractive then men.  Women have accessories, clothes, make-up, styles, and more.  Guys have a nice pair of pants to wear.

If you walk around present day U.S., you'll see many couples that have a girl who's a 7.5 or higher on a 1-10 beauty scale, and the guys are more like 6 or 5.

80% of women are very pretty, the other 20% mostly pretty.

30% of guys are incredibly handsome, the other 70% slouches.

  3. I agree, it's annoying. Not because of the fact that some really hot women DO end up with average looking guys (or less than average...), that's all fine and good. I actually know a lot of cute women who prefer plainer men because they're usually nicer.

It's annoying because you almost never see the other way around. And only this way seems to be encouraged. Neither way should be encouraged because it doesn't matter.

And on a personal level... I think it gives the unattractive guys out there who are really obnoxious a little too much pride and then they think women will throw themselves at them.

  4. I totally agree. It even happens on sitcoms. There's always some working-class guy and some hot stay at home mom.

  5. Yeah, I'm guessing there are just more pop movies made by males. I've wondered about this too. Women def. have more pressure to look more attractive than men in my opinion, and especially in Hollywood. It seems when a guy is chubby it's funny but when a girl is chubby it's a turn off. Maybe people are more quick to judge a female based on her attractiveness than a male based on his attractiveness or lack thereof. Double standard seems to be the right term for this phenomenon. I wonder if women are less demanding when it comes to looks. Maybe an attractive girl sells more tickets than an attractive guy. It seems like there are more unusual looks on the male side of working Hollywood than the female side. Individuality is tolerated with males while females often appear to have to fit more into a mold to the point where they become carbon copies of ea. other. All of those cosmetic surgeries tend to turn out quite a homogenized group of mostly women, in my opinion.

    Best Wishes!

  6. I think r'j's mommy sums it up well. Many films are written and directed by men and sitcoms are especially written by men or for men overall. If you look at the statistics and target demographics of King of Queens (fat guy, hot wife) the George Lopez show (funny looking guy, hot wife and that sit com with Jon Belushi and the attractive Wife and so on. the main target demorgraphics are viewed and tailored to men ages 18-49. But then Desperate Housewives and Grey's anatomy, which are both demographically targeted towards women and mainly or more women view these shows than men, and the men on these shows happen to be better looking than your average Joe.

Therefore, this seems to indicate what R.j's Mommy has said. I mean before George Clooney was doing movies, which many women find this guy very handsome, he was on the big hit series "ER", which is kind of like a drama, late night show like Grey's Anatomy, except more about the medical aspect than the casual fling/gossip stuff like Grey's Anatomy. By the way I have saw some parts of Grey's anatomy because of watching it with gf's, but I could truly careless about those shows and would rather watch Comedy Central or ESPN.

Thank God, I'm part of that 30%, and I guess poor Davion is in the rest of the 70% as he said. Speak for yourself buddy. So most women are very prettty and the rest are fairly attractive? I find tons attractive, but I don't know if that percentage is quite right. We all have different tastes, so that percentage of yours is your opinion and many others are very well to disagree with.

  7. Follywood, ha.

  8. i  guess its much easier to find a hot girl than a hot guy ;)

  9. Yeah, that's true. But its just how you view them. Personally i view them as sexist because the males character revolves around stupidity and s*x addiction. Good Luck Chuck is one movie where the roles are some what reversed. We do need more movies where their is an average girl and a good looking fella who has brains.

  10. There needs to be better looking men in Hollywood.. They are out there.. So I dont understand why they pair them the way they do in Hollywood..

Also, men portrayed in the media do not dress well at all!

They think that baggy clothes are attractive.. Well, it most certainly is not!

  11. Lots of guys trying to live out their dreams in the movies I supposes.  None of the movies you are refering to were written by women like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was!

Maybe you should write that into a screenplay.  I bet hordes of women would go see it.  I know I would!!
