Question:

What's with the blue PS2 disks?

My Playstation 2 won't play the disks that have any other color on the back than white, which is usually blue. I mean, it won't even try to read it! I don't get on video games that often, but when I buy a game I expect it to work! There are a lot of disks out there like that and it seems the options of what to buy at Game Stop are a lot tighter than they should be. Is there anything that can be done with my PS2 that will make these disks be able to read properly?

  1. Some PS2 games are on CD, some are on DVD and they use different colors for each. White (or no color) = DVD, Blue (etc) = CD.

My best guess is that your PS2's laser is broken and can now only read DVDs, rather than CDs.

  2. I never actually knew that, but i did wonder that. My cousin and i both have the Sims 2, his has the "Greatest Hits" thing on the front of it, mine don't, i thought they were all the same?!

Also, i have a skinny PS2 model, and it reads games that have blue backs just fine! Perfectly actually

  3. Blue PS2 disk's are games that came out when the PS2 first released. The skinny PS2's can read Blue disk's, but not as well as the fat PS2 models. The skinny PS2 can't read the blue disk's sometimes, and can also crash. But they run it very well most of the time.
