Question:

What's with the saddles that don't have brands?

I'm looking for a new saddle and found some good-looking "packages" on ebay (including a bridle girth etc.) But the saddles never have a brand...what does this mean? Are they horrible quality if they don't have a brand name? Who makes them?

I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something to start my QH with.

  1. I had a no name english saddle, I enjoyed it! In fact, before I gave it to my neighbor, it was the best saddle I had.

I think with the no names you are more likely to ride it and have fun, then you are with a brand name. (ie: get it dirty).

    Have fun and good luck!!

  2. i just sold a no name saddle it was  nice just for trail riding . the guality was not that bad for a no name.

  3. I'd be VERY afraid of an English saddle package that doesn't have a brand name on it.  Even some who do!

I'd go to ebay and look at older all purpose saddles that tell you where they were made.  Names such as Stubben, Pariani, Kieffer and so on.  If you're into close contact saddles, Barnsby, Crump, Crosby, Etc.

You're looking for items made in Europe, NOT Argentina or India.

Even a USED European made saddle will still hold more of it's value than an Argentina or Indian made saddle.  Also the Euroean made rigs tend to have trees that don't warp as easily.

Here's a list of all purpose saddles from ebay...Look at the older ones.

    Best of luck.

  4. I ordered one off of E-bay and loved it. It was an all-purpose set and it fit well. The leather didn't fray or tear at all. It was a great saddle in my opinion considering it was only $175 with a bridle, pad, irons, and leathers. :)

    Good Luck,

  5. That means they are extremely low quality and will not last long, and can be poorly made, which is a danger to your horse and you. Especially if there is a defect in the tree or stirrup keepers.
