I'm planning to rent a car for several days. I'll need it for 5, but was thinking that I might as well go ahead and get a 7 day rental. I'm thinking that the daily cost might be greater for the 5 days, so what the h**l just go for the whole week.

Wouldn't you think that the longer the term of the rental, the lower the daily rate would be? Well I checked budget car rental and compared the cost for a 5 day rental to a full week rental. Turns out the full week for an intermediate car would be $301 including all taxes and fees. That's the total cost after they tack on all those incredible taxes that they stiff car renters with. On the other hand, the total cost for a 5 day rental is only $137. The daily cost for 7 days comes to about $43 and the daily cost for 5 days comes to about $27. Go figure? What's up with this? I'm figuring Thursday noon to Tuesday noon for the 5 day. Maybe it's a weekend rate. That's the only way it makes sense.
