well I just dont quite get it when people here say it's not appropriate for a man to say it. (I don't user that term either though)

"bruha" is from the Spanish "bruja" which means witch, isn't it?

when watching some Mexican telenovelas dubbed in Tagalog we can hear some men saying it. so what's wrong with it?

  1. tis word usually associated with g*y people.  they will say "bruha" and pinch you at the same time.

  2. Because in the Philippines, only women and g*y men use that term. Rare to hear a man say that word.

  3. Each "speech community" (the term is from linguistics) has its own rules on what is proper, what words really mean, who gets to say it, etc.  For example, in Japanese there's "male talk" and there's "female talk," something that foreign learners are usually not aware of, and foreign males end up sounding like sissies simply because most Japanese-language teachers are female.  In the case of "bruha," it's okey for straight males to use it in Mexico, but not in the Philippines, simply because each country has its own unique "speech community."

  4. Well, it's just negative expression most especially used by the 3rd s*x.  Just smile back once someone addressed "bruja" at you.  So that the negative karma won't effect you ;)

    Cheers!!!!!

  5. I don't mind my guy friends saying Bruha. Although I must admit it sounds a little g*y because I mostly hear the term from g*y people I know.

  6. If its mexican saying that its probably a totally different meaning.   Bruha is tagalog and bisaya word I thought.  Fighting words among girls.? I think

  7. Meaning that guy is g*y.. Straight guys in the Filli usually use the word *********

  8. The word "Bruha" in the present vernacular is the eminent domain of baklas in the Philippines.

Use of this word by heterosexual males in the public space requires an instant royalty payment to  "Boy" Abunda, who by the way, possesses the most ironic name ever given to a person in the country.

  9. It is a term often used by g**s so when you hear a man say it, it somehow gives the impression he is g*y.  You can never hear a Filipino who is macho or virile  utter the word to anyone.
