Why can't this Canadian donut chain, with its considerable size, get its act together and challenge rival Tim Horton's?

  1. I've never heard of Robin's Donuts.


  2. Probably a part of it comes down to advertising budget. Tim Horton's spends a lot of money on advertising and promotions to keep their name at the top of our minds. They've become a very Canadian image, combine that with the Roll up the Rim to won contests and they've cemented themselves in brains pretty firmly. Robin's Donuts would have to start really spending time and money on ads to begin to compete. Plus they're not as widespread in Canada so it's hard to get everyone to choose a store they haven't heard of.

  3. Quality of product doesn't determine success so much as brand recognition, volume, and constant media saturation.
