  1. Its not that american water is so great. Its just that our body system is use to the water here. (I'm not sure if a lot of places i.e. cities in Mexico use chlorine.) With flouride, chlorine etc... to keep it parasite and bacteria free.

Mexico uses a different filtration system there then we do here. Not everyone gets sick. But, quite a few do. It is just to much of a shock to our system. Just like if you went to a different culture and ate totally different. You might get diarrhea for a while till your body would adjust to the spices, oils etc...

    Hope this helps.

  2. Water in Mexico

The drinking water in Mexico is notorious worldwide for not being entirely drinkable for travellers. Yet the rural inhabitants of Mexico do drink it with no ill effects. This is mainly because they have built up a tolerance to it from drinking it all their lives. Many visitors to Mexico would consider the drinking water to be undrinkable, because so many of them become violently sick for 24-48 hours if they drink it. The reason is that the water is home to many and various single-celled organisms, which, as a group, are generally considered to be parasites. These inhabitants of the water do not mind being swallowed at all. They expect it, and love being swallowed. The parasites will use the unwary drinker as a host and, as a reward, will make the drinker violently ill for what often seems like an eternity. The notorious consequences of drinking Mexican drinking water are collectively described as 'Montezuma's Revenge' in honour of the late, great Aztec ruler whose hospitality to visitors from Spain was so rudely repaid.

I am a American from Mexican decent and wen to Mexico this past summer and go sick. Had diarahea for a few days. Not sure what it was..could have been the ice, out side food..who knows.  I was no the only one from the US that got sick. It was alot of us.

  3. i agrre with person above ^

  4. it depends where you come from. almost everyone rejects or gets sick by drinkins water that is not from the place they drank at young ages. i live in mexico and ive lived in the US and i didnt get sick in any of those places.

  5. See article below for good info.

  6. I live in Mexico and don't drink the water that is available for home use. It comes from a well and is treated with chemicals and there's much salt in the water table. Purified water is widely available and cheap. Note to travelers...it may not be the water, too many late nights and multiple Margaritas can make you sick. Watch your intake.

  7. no, its just that mexican water is not purified enough and is somehow not the same in mexico, so if americans come to drink the water, they would most likely get sick, but vise versa, if people from mexico who are used to mexico's water drink the american water, they would probably get sick.
