What's wrong with her? What would you do in this situation?

For ex., you give someone who normally doesn't take care of their appearance a compliment, and they just stare at you blankly or so "Oh". And you give them compliments but they just refute them or not answer at all. They don't even smile or look happy. What's going on?

If they received an empty compliment just to lift their spirits they must realize it was not warranted, that's why they give you the blank look and refute them.  They realize they are not honest compliments.

It might be that she was having a bad day and not necessarily she had any thing against you.

Just let her be and move on.

Maybe they believe they don't look any better and have very low self esteem. Maybe they don't use make up usually because they think ''What's the point, I look plain anyway.. I don't believe that person is rude. I believe this person never got a compliment about her looks in her life and therefore she is just dumbfounded.. she doesn't know what to believe.. she got low self esteem and believes she always looks plain.. so she needs to really do something to boost her self confidence..  by achieving something and by being praised for being a nice person and that she really looks a lot better with the make up on.. that will give her the incentive to always take better care of her appearance if a lot of people say..''You look so much better with make up, a great improvement..'' then she will think ''Maybe they really mean it after all, maybe I should wear make up from now on!''

Maybe she's not used to getting compliments. U say she normally doesn't take care of her appearance though :)
