  1. I agree with the above.  People are so unaware of what's happening around them!  Do you really think plastic bags and paper cups rot away within a matter of hours or days?  How do you think they "rot" away?  It takes  while for weathering and bacterial breakdown to transorm these complex structures into molecular size compounds.

Think about how littering affects animals.  Balloons that are released pop when they get high due to the high temps.  They fall back down, and birds unwittingly eat them.  This messes up their digestive systems, and they die.  What about cans or even the plastic rings that connect cans?  Animals can get their noses stuck in them, and  they starve to death because they can't eat.

It's extremely depressing that you had to ask this question.  Why aren't schools taking a more active role in educating students on how to care for the environment and its creatures?

  2. Littering can never be supported, it is wrong and should never be done.

When we throw things it depends what it is and where we are throwing. In forested areas biodegradable things degrade and decompose but nonbiodegradable things remain as it is for a long time and things like plastic are harmful for the environment.

It is best to throw things at a certain place and preferably make compost of degradable things that way you will harm the environment less.

  3. The material that your litter is made of will remain in the environment for a long time after your littler has gone away. Even when you can't see it anymore, leaving your rubbish laying around releases harmful chemicals into the soil and air, which in turn can affect the surrounding plant and animal life.

There is also the possibility that it hasn't actually rotted away and some kind person has come along and picked it up for you. Think about it.

  4. idiot. just because someone else tidies the street doesn't mean your conscience is clear.

  5. No, more than likely it has not "rotted away".  It decomposes and it takes years for even some of the smallest things to decompose.  Littering is wron because it harms the environment.  More than  likely, that trash that you think decomposed probably was taken away by the wind, somebody cleaning up, or even an animal.  You have to think about some of these things.  So please, do not litter.  In the long run, it hurts us also.  Please reconsider and dispose of the trash properly.
