What's wrong with my DVD recorder?

It won't format new discs and I'm using the same brand and type that I always use.

DVD blanks do not have to be formatted.

You don't need to format new discs, if you format a disc you erase ALL the contents on that disc. just put the new disc into your recorder and record it, (not forgetting the "finalise" stage) & Bob's yer uncle.
