What's wrong with my Mercedes?

I have a 2002 Mercedes-Benz c230 K coupe,I took my car to Mercedes and they said I needed a new transmission ($8,000). I could not afford that so my friend referred me to someone who has a shop and could fix it for $1500, so I let him fix it. Problem, he still has the car and it's been like a month. He bought a used or rebuilt transmission and he called and said it didn't work so he went somewhere else and bought another one , still does not work. He said now it may be an electrical problem. When I had my car it would drive but very slowly I wouldn't drive over 25mph because the engine would rev to high. Please Help!

  1. it may be electronic but its most likely your transmission have some one else look at it get a second opinion

  2. The trans has to be rebuilt.I do not know where you are located.I specialize in diagnosing and rebuilding mercedes transmissions.I am located in nothern New Jersey,USA.Your car has a 722.6 trans and I rebuild these transmissions for $2100.

  3. a c230 is like $11,000, you might as well just buy a new one, and sell the old one for like $6500... cheaper for you..

  4. You cheeped out and did not go with the Mercedes Benz dealer and now your complaining. Give me a break if you spent the money Mercedes Benz would guarantee the work and have you driving the car. Many modern car systems require special electronic diagnostic equipment so the technician can see just what is going on. You might be taking the car back to the dealership. Just tell the independent shop to get it running. Have them tow it at there expense to the dealership for repair. Hire an attorney to write the shop a letter of intent that will get them working on solving the problem right away. I hope you did not prepay for the transmission that did not work. And I hope this isn't some guy working out of an old gas station or house who would not have any money to go after. Sorry independent shops that is the cost of doing business. I was one and you will almost never win your case in court. You said I can fix it and did not, all she wants is a running car.

  5. Unfortunately, you are in too deep now. It would've been better for you to take the vehicle to another MB dealership to get a second opinion.

The first diagnosis may be correct, but there are other possibilities. Most of the time, there is a fault in the throttle actuator which would be an electrical fault. It could be a computer issue or shifter assembly issue. Only proper diagnosis will solve the problem and I recommend you go back to an MB dealership for the proper diagnosis.

You were able to drive the vehicle but not over 25 mph because it was in "Limp Mode" which is a feature that allows you to get to a safe place but tries to protects the transmission from further damage when it detects a fault in the transmission system.

    Good luck!
