Question:

What's wrong with my back tuck?

Okay so about a month or so ago I had my back tuck perfect off of a block and into the pit (without spot), but now I struggle with this even with spot. My coach says its very high and that I have good sets but then when I go to do it on my own (off of the block or from the floor into the pit) I always hit was head on the floor or block or whatever I'm jumping from. Is this because of my set and I'm not getting far enough back? Why is this happening?

And now what my coach is saying is that I've got to restart with my back handsprings which seem fine and then work my way up to a back tuck all over again.

  1. i dont think youre getting enough power off of your legs.

  2. you probably did it too many times with out a spot, and without someone there watching you, and you got into the habit of the wrong way. just pull your legs over faster than anything.

  3. your set might be part of the problem, also another problem would be that you are not putting enough strenghth into it. Here is some advice. When you are about ready to jump, spot something straight infront of you, then jump high and sort of backwards(Do  few straight high jumps going back a little without flipping to get the hang of the type of jump that u should be doing.) then keep your eyes on the object straight ahead and DO NOT through your head back until your knees get in the way. Then flip your knees and legs really fast!

Good luck and remember to have fun.
