What's wrong with my car?? HELP!!?

Hey guys, I just got my used '99 Accord today- it has no plates as of. Yet, I still took it for a spin around the block.

What I noticed:

-A small rattling noise EVERY time I start/shut-off the engine

-A similar rattling noise if not the SAME, whenever I rev up the engine to slightly higher RPM's

-A different noise(more like a raspy croak) when the car is braking- but only for about a split second, JUST before car comes to a complete halt

-My driveway is on an incline, and the car actually rolls back when it's on Drive(D4 gear on the car)

-The hood doesn't close completely- there's no clicking sound when hood is pushed shut, so anybody could just open it by pulling the latch!

What's causing the problems I described? How much more money will it require to take care of it? If you need any more info on the car, please let me know. I'll even put up pics of the car/engine, if you like.

-Car is a '99 Accord EX- auto, VTEC, probably a 4 cylinder, since there is no V6 logo,

-173,000+ miles

  1. The first two rattles may be exhaust -- see if the pipe is rubbing anywhere.  Or, may be loose catalyst in the catalytic converter.

The croak may be your coils, can't do much about it.
