Question:

What's wrong with my finger?

I had my first ever skiing lesson about a week ago now. It was soooo much fun, I loved it!

I am definitely no natural, and I did fall over several times and had a hard time getting up again.

Aaaanyway, one of these times I was attempting to get up, and as I have no control over my skis one of them slipped and trapped my finger under it. It was soooooo painful! I managed to get it out but it was severely bruised I could feel it under my glove. When I took my glove off at the end it was swollen (not hugely, but definitely) and purple underneath my nail. It was also extremely painful for the rest of the day. I put ice on it int he evening and after a while the swelling went down. It was still slightly purple and painful for a few days after sort of 2 or 3 and then stopped hurting so much.

The bruising has now gone down completely but yesterday it was ever so painful again and now it won't stop being painful! It hurts to type and cook and all sorts.

I know it's not broken because I can bend it (although it does hurt when I do that). But what else is it? Have I strained it or hurt a muscle in some way?

P.S. It's the top of my right index finger so it's quite important considering I'm going back into year 11 at school!!!

Please help me!! Should I be taping it together with the next finger or something?

  1. maybe you just bruised it really, really bad!  tape it to another finger or get one of those finger splints and tape it to that!  and that way when you bump it, it wont hurt sooo bad!!  I know the type of pain your talking of, I've been there!!  best of luck to you!!

  2. You should probably put it in some sort of a splint so that it can heal without being disrupted.  Try not to use it for a week or two, and if it still hurts after that, you should go see a doctor.  Also, just because you can move it, that doesn't mean it's not broken.
