Question:

What's wrong with my fish?

I have had 3 high-fin tetras for about 3.5 years. They live in a ten gallon tank, and I have not intoduced any new fish, or changed their enviroment dramatically in the last few years. I feed them once a day, and change the filter, water, and chemicals regularly. When I was feeding them the other day I noticed that on of their bodies seems smaller. Their body is usually oval shaped, and about 1.5 inches long, but it seems like the top of this fish's head is now flat, instead of rounded. The back /tail also appears to be split down the middle, like the fluke of a whale. The fish swims at a slightly upward angle, instead of completely horizontal. Are these symptoms just my fish getting old and dying, or is there something I can do to help it. The other two fish seem perfectly healthy.

  1. yeah he or she could be getting old. not much you can do. but they have had a nice long life. it seems like they are lucky to have u as an owner :)

    good luck with them.

  2. well maybe your fish is really a genius fish (related to a genius squirrel) and has seen that your avatar has recently been decked out with some awesome accesories, so, to get its own awesome garb, it has inflicted wounds on itself to get you to notice its lack of garb and you would then adress these but buying him some uber cool accesories, so thus you are missing his whole genius plan. My advice, buy him a viking hat, obnoxiously large scarf, brightly colored tie die leggings, and some risque gladiator sandals. oh, and sorry to tell you, but your other fish are not genius fish...

  3. i think its just them getting old...i have an oscar that we rescued right now that is swimming in loops, and circles, and he tips his head up and tail down when he swims...its a sign of neuro problems. i would watch him, sometimes they come out of it, but most of the time it means something is really wrong with their brain, and pass away. keep an eye on him, and try to make him comfy.
